Last week a EEYP journalist wrote an article about our project on "La Stampa", an Italian newspaper. The article is about the EEYP week from 7 to 14 February, in particular on how the week will be structured. The first evening there will be the EEYP Euromarket, an event where every delegation will present their hometown and school. The following four days each committee will work to write a resolution on environmentally sustainable city problems, the main topic of this EEYP session. The resolutions will be debated and voted the last two days at the General Assembly. It also focuses on the fact that EEYP is a way for young people to express their ideas and their fundamental role in modern societies. So EEYP is the starting point for a new way of thinking by young people, focused on respecting our environment and people, linked to improving our quality of life, and this will help lead to a brighter future.

Sbarca a Torino l’Erasmian European Youth Parliament
L’iniziativa è organizzata dalla Scuola Altiero Spinelli e s’inserisce nel calendario di Torino Capitale Europea dei giovani 2010

Sette giorni per presentare una risoluzione, svilupparla in commissione, discuterla e approvarla in aula. Saranno oltre 200 i giovani provenienti da 16 diversi Paesi d’Europa che parteciperanno, dal 7 al 14 febbraio a Villa Gualino, alla seconda edizione dell’Erasmian European Youth Parliament. L’iniziativa s’inserisce fra le attività per Torino Capitale Europea dei Giovani 2010 ed è organizzata dagli insegnanti e studenti della Scuola Internazionale Europea Altiero Spinelli grazie al co-finanziamento del Miur, della Regione Piemonte e del Comune di Torino. All’evento parteciperanno anche il liceo classico D’Azeglio, due licei scientifici piemontesi, il Galilei di Borgomanero e il Peano di Cuneo, e una delegazione del liceo scientifico Duca d’Aosta dell’Aquila.
L’obiettivo dell’EEYP, che si è riunito per la prima volta lo scorso anno a Rotterdam, è offrire ai ragazzi un’occasione per calarsi nei panni dei parlamentari europei e avvicinarsi alle regole del mondo della politica. Gli studenti lavoreranno per quattro giorni, suddivisi in 12 commissioni, con il compito di formulare una serie di proposte di legge sul tema dell’ecosostenibilità nelle città. Venerdì 12 e sabato 13 febbraio, i diversi provvedimenti saranno presentati, discussi e approvati dall’Assemblea Generale del Parlamento, costituita da tutti gli studenti riuniti in sessione plenaria. Al termine del confronto, sabato 13 febbraio, durante una cerimonia ufficiale che si svolgerà a partire dalle 16,30 presso il Centro Congressi della Regione Piemonte, in corso Stati Uniti 23, le risoluzioni approvate saranno consegnate al sindaco di Torino, Sergio Chiamparino, e al sindaco di Anversa (la città che ospiterà l’EEYP nel 2011), oltre che ai rappresentanti dell’European Youth Forum. All’evento parteciperà anche la Presidente della Regione Piemonte, Mercedes Bresso.
La lingua ufficiale del meeting sarà l’inglese: l’intero evento sarà autogestito dai giovani con il supporto degli insegnanti che avranno il compito di vigilare “a distanza” sullo svolgimento del programma. Oltre agli studenti dell’Unione Europea, parteciperanno ai lavori anche una delegazione svizzera e una turca. Nell’elaborazione dei progetti di legge ciascun gruppo di studenti sarà, inoltre, supportato dalla consulenza di personaggi di spicco del mondo politico, industriale, della cultura e della medicina, che incontreranno i ragazzi in occasione dell’evento “Meet the boss”, in programma per la serata di mercoledì 10 febbraio.
«Credo che il compito principale di una città alla quale viene conferito l’onore di essere Capitale Europea dei Giovani – spiega Maria Luisa Vighi Miletto, preside del Liceo Spinelli - sia creare occasioni di incontro e di confronto tra ragazzi di nazionalità differenti, impegnati a discutere e a dibattere appassionatamente su temi che riguardano il futuro di tutti. Il Parlamento Europeo dei Giovani può rappresentare, per i delegati e non solo, un’occasione preziosa, per concepire e sviluppare idee su un tema oggi molto dibattuto, come l’ecostenibilità, nel rispetto delle norme e delle procedure di lavoro che regolano le sedute di un vero e proprio Parlamento. Da delegati preparati, aperti e appassionati non possiamo dunque che attenderci proposte interessanti».
Durante la settimana, gli studenti saranno anche coinvolti nella stesura di un giornale quotidiano in inglese che conterrà articoli e interviste sull’ecosostenibilità, cronache e curiosità sull’andamento dei lavori e anticipazioni sul programma dei giorni successivi.

Seven days to present a resolution, develop it in committees, debate and then vote it at the assembly. Over 200 students from 16 different European countries will take part in the Erasmian European Youth Parliament. This initiative is part of the Torino European Youth Capital 2010 and is organized by teachers and students from the European International School Altiero Spinelli, sponsored by Miur, Region of Piemonte, and the City Council of Torino. The Classical High School D’Azeglio, two Scientific High Schools from Piemonte, the Galilei of Borgomanero, the Peano of Cuneo, and one delegation from the Scientific High School Duca d’Aosta of Aquila will also take part.
The aim of EEYP, which was held for the first time last year in Rotterdam, gives students the opportunity to be European Politicians for a week and start working with the rules and regulations of the political world. The students will be working for seven days, divided into 12 committees, to write resolutions on Environmentally Sustainable Cities. Friday 12th and Saturday 13th February, the resolutions will be presented, discussed and voted at the General Assembly by a plenary session of all the students. At the end of the General Assembly on Saturday 13th February, during the Closing Ceremony, which will take place at 16.30 at the Congress Centre of the Regione Piemonte, in Corso Stati Uniti 23, the resolutions that pass will then be handed over to the mayor of Torino, Sergio Chiamparino, the mayor of Anversa (the city that will host EEYP 2011) and also the representatives of the European Youth Forum. The President of the Region of Piemonte will also take part in the event.
The official language of the meeting will be English: the entire event will be run by the youth with the help of teachers, whose responsibility will be to supervise “from a distance” the programme. Besides the students from the European Union, there will also be a delegation from Switzerland and one from Turkey. To help develop the resolutions each committee will be able to discuss their ideas with experts from the political, industrial, cultural and medical world, who will meet the students during “Meet the Boss” on Wednesday evening 10th February.
“I believe the principal role of a city that has the honour to be European Youth Capital” Maria Luisa Vighi Miletto, headmistress of the Spinelli High School explained “is to create events where students of various nationalities can meet and passionately discuss and debate on topics, which concern everyone’s future. The Erasmian European Youth Parliament is a chance for the delegates, but not only, to understand and develop ideas on a present-day issue, environmental sustainability, following the rules and work procedures that govern a real Parliament. As the delegates are well-prepared, open-minded and passionate we can only expect interesting resolutions”
During the week, the students will also be involved in writing a daily newspaper in English, which will include articles and interviews on environmentally sustainable topics, reports and curiosities on the week’s progress and bulletins on the following day’s programme.
